All Those Moments by Rutger Hauer

All Those Moments is an autobiography by Rutger Hauer. He's made many movies, but is best known for playing a replicant in Blade Runner.

Entertaining, well written, interesting. When he was in his twenties, he moved from Holland to Dornach, Switzerland and worked for a Summer at the Gotheanum, a centre for Anthroposophy started by Rudolf Steiner, who initiated Waldorf education. When he was starting out he worked with then unknown Dutch filmmakers like Paul Verhoven (Basic Instinct) and Jan DeBont (Speed). He moved to the US and was in the hits Nighthawks, The Hitcher, and Ladyhawke.

He also mentions working on Sin City, one of the first big CGI movies. He was in a hotel room scene with Mickey Roarke, only Mickey had filmed his part a few months ago. The studio was wrapped in green screens, there was nothing but a bed to sit on, and they showed him the footage of Mickey doing his part. Then Rutger sat on the bed, walked around the space, and later Mickey and the entire digital environment was drawn in. A very strange way to work that has become a part of the filming art.

All the money from the sale of the book went to his foundation for children with HIV/AIDS.

An unexpected find.
