Bossypants is the terrific memoir by actress, writer, producer, and comedienne Tina Fey. You already know who she is and have probably read this. If not, you'll be happy you did. Her humour is sharp and insightful, she hits that nail.
Best known for an endearing scar on her face, this is not the book to read if you want to know it's origin, dum dum. She will tell you about growing up in New Jersey in a Greek family, being Mexican at a Virginia College, working the night shift at an Illinois YMCA, then joining Chicago's famed Second City in the touring troupe. Along the way, she marries and has a daughter. The majority of the book is about her improv and being a writer/cast member of Saturday Night Live, where she skewered society on Weekend Update, became the real Sarah Palin in many people's eyes (the real Sarah never said she could see Russia from her house, that was Tina) and went on to create the hilarious TV series 30 Rock. No, those are not Alec Baldwin's arms on the cover, I thought that, too. Like 30 Rock, her writing in Bossypants is consistently laugh out loud funny and on point. It's hard to think of 'the funny story' in this book - it's all hysterical.
If you have read the recent memoirs from Amy Schumer, Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch, Mindy Kaling, or even Jennifer Saunders - it's time to read the one I'm recommending as the best.
