The Way I See It by Melissa Anderson

In the interest of reviewing every book I read, here is The Way I See It by Melissa Anderson, who starred as Mary, the blind sister on TV's Little House on the Prairie. "Read" is a loose term here for skimmed, as I only wanted to read about one thing, her movie career after she left the show. If you are a fan of the TV series though, this is a treasure for you.

Melissa recalls her audition process in 1974 with Michael Landon, and then chronicles each of the eight seasons in detail, show by show including stories of her co-stars and guest stars. For Little House fans, there can't be a more comprehensive behind the scenes memoir.

What I was interested in was her first starring role, the 1980 Canadian horror film Happy Birthday to Me. Coming out shortly after Friday the 13th, it tried to up the ante with bizarre murders and a trick ending that really didn't work. I've read they changed the story halfway through the shoot, several times, and for a while no one on the crew knew who was the killer. A bit of a mess but filled with cheesy charm and creative enough to stand out to a fourteen year old horror fan. She mentions it in about two pages, saying she had a great time.

There are other roles in her career, but the focus is on Little House. If you are a fan of the show this is what you are looking for.
